Bazooka Tango, a gaming studio led by the former founder of Vainglory, has just announced that it has successfully raised $5 million in a funding round led by BITKRAFT Ventures. Other well-known venture capital firms, such as RW3 Ventures, Sfermion, and 1Up Ventures, also participated. Bazooka Tango reportedly plans to utilize the additional funding to expand, release new (in-development) games, and intensify work on Shardbound, an immersive multiplayer collectible tactics game.

TCG Market

By 2030, analysts project the trading card game (TCG) market to hit more than $10 billion, which means that titles such as Shardbound, which fuse traditional TCG components with the concept of digital ownership, will likely take center stage.

About Bazooka Tango

Bo Daly and Stephan Sherman, two seasoned veterans with a wealth of AAA gaming experience from Rockstar Games, Riot, Blizzard, and Activision, founded Bazooka Tango in March 2019. Notably, they developed the critically acclaimed video game Vainglory and co-founded Super Evil Megacorp in the past. Their newest project, which they are working on with top web3 publisher Immutable Games, intends to create a next-generation, collectible tactics game with a deep strategy, intense gameplay, and rich lore that incorporates web3 technology to give players true digital ownership.

Bazooka Tango made several strategic hires with the funds, one of which was Kellen Smalley, who was appointed vice president of operations. With over 18 years of experience in a variety of gaming and entertainment companies, including Apple, Disney, Twitch, Kabam, Electronic Arts, and web3 companies Forte and Rally, Smalley is a seasoned executive. Experienced game developers from Sledgehammer Games, Rainbow Studios, 2K, and Pocket Gems are also a part of the Bazooka Tango team.

Surprisingly, Shardbound is making a comeback to the world of blockchain gaming. Immutable Games and Bazooka Tango are currently developing the game. It was only made available on Steam in an incomplete “Early Access” version in 2017.

More About Shardbound

Shardbound is a free-to-play strategy card game where players use virtual cards to battle each other in a 3D arena. Shardbound borrows elements from both TBS and the TCG genre.

The gameplay is similar to Blizzard’s Hearthstone, including elements of Riot Games’ Teamfight Tactics. Similar NFT games currently available include Skyweaver and Splinterlands, both of which incorporate collectible card game (TCG) elements and strategic turn-based gameplay.
